Farmers’ Market

The farmers' market happens during the summer near our house. At least once a year, we used to visit the farmers' market where farmers sell their freshly harvested farm produce like vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Many art stalls, food stalls, musical instruments, woolen produce like sweaters and shawls, and handicrafts can be found here. It feels like visiting a village.

It is fascinating to walk around the market. Farmers and artisans make the rare side of their vehicles like a shop, and at the end of the day, they gather their stuff, load it in their vehicles, and leave the place. There will be a large number of temporary tenants in this farmers' market. We usually buy from regular stores, but buying directly from the farmers is an enjoyable experience.

The vegetables and fruits that we buy from big departmental stores would reach the stores imprisoned in boxes and reach us a few days later. But the produce in this market would have been harvested within a couple of days before we buy them, making them very fresh. We would buy baskets of fruits and vegetables.

Last time we bought a red rose plant, and this year too we wanted to buy the same color rose plant but could not find one. My brother and I used to play a game in the market. If I say the name of a vegetable, he has to find where it is in the market. He would get confused between beans and carrots despite their unusual colors. He did not know the difference between tomatoes and potatoes. Potatoes are shapeless or odd-shaped, and tomatoes are round and red in color, but he would still be drawing a blank, the same with carrots, which are orange and beans, which are green. But he is clear about pumpkins and cauliflower.

We love the various kinds of berries; we always buy plenty of them from the market. We would buy them a lot, and for the next two weeks, only berries are our snacks. There would be some musical events in the markets, and we would hang around for a while and enjoy the music. Every year, some new additions would be in the market, creating an interest and curiosity to go to the market.

There would be many interesting artsy things in the market, and many craftsmen would be making their artwork like jewelry, drawings, etc. They also explain their work to us, and the artists are quite enthusiastic in explaining them to us, which inspires us. Thus, we have an enriching experience at the farmers' market.
